2020 2021 season progress

 August 2021

Dear Members and friends of LRS

It is with deep regret that we are writing to tell you that after more than half a century the LRS has ceased to be a viable operation. The number of members attending meetings has dwindled and is now solely supported by the same loyal members who have attended the society for many years. The committee have all resigned following a recent meeting, and with no replacements coming forward to run the society, your committee have decided to close the activities of The London Refrigeration Society

Accrued monies disposal is planned, and we decided to hold (and pay for) a “last supper” on Thursday evening 30th September at the Greenwich Tavern.

Therefore If you were a regular Monthly attendee and would like to come with your partner to a final social gathering together at the Greenwich Tavern please let us know by the end of August.  So we can confirm a menu and seating with the chef for the evening of 30th Sept.

We have debated disposing of remaining funds with London’s Homeless,  Air Ambulance, The Hampshire Refrigeration Society, The Birmingham Refrigeration Society. and the Institute Of Refrigeration and to close our account permanently.           Please make your feelings known

Follows a brief resume of or history:-

We feel very sad about this as 60 years or so ago,  we regularly had  at least 50 members attend each informed talk on refrigeration topics.  Not only could they learn about the subject of the different talks, they were also able to meet and socialise with other members of the industry.

In the 1960’s to meet the initial running costs of the meetings 3 members used some of their annual leave to organise an exhibition for refrigeration companies to show their equipment and meet with their existing and prospective customers.

The first was at White City Stadium and was held biannually, and as it got more successful it was supported by the R.A.C. magazine and moved to larger venues until it was held at the N.E.C. Birmingham.

I will update the web site but not renew subscriptions when due.

With Regrets from your committee   Brendan, Len, Malcom and Ron

June 2021

Dear members of the London Refrigeration Society,

Your committee met Thursday 17th June to discuss the future of the society in these troubled times. As you are aware due to this terrible pandemic all meetings had to be cancelled and zoom / microsoft team presentations did not appeal.

Now we are coming out of lockdown with pubs opening, but with limited attendances - we need to know what you guys think.       Do you think the current format is what you want in our society, or do you feel just a social chat over a monthly beer would be better, or close down?

The committee's belief is that the society has run its course, no volunteers have come forward in the last few years to take over the mantle of Secretary, Chairman, Social sec, Speaker recruiter, Web master etc  .

Both Ron and Malcolm can no longer physically carry out the roles of Secretary and Chairman and Brendan has retired and is moving to the south coast in the next couple of weeks. So this means we have a choice, we either call it a day and share our capital out to charities and the IOR or we get volunteers from you chaps to take up the reins and run the revised London Refrigeration Society.

We  propose holding a “regulars” get together in say early September over a pie and a pint in Greenwich, to finalise a decision to Reform or Close down the society.  In the meantime please respond by reply email to Ron with your thoughts and comments

- 1  If you would consider taking on one of the listed roles, in the committee and of course

  2. if you would like to attend a Thursday evening meeting in September.

3  Attend regularly to arranged talks with guest speakers.

Hoping you all keep safe and well, and looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

Your Committee (Ron, Malcolm, Len and Brendan)

Now into 2021 and things are worsening and we have no progress to report   but please keep safe ready to resume our companionship through our monthly meetings     Ron

So sorry   due to Covid 19 rules and restrictions things have ground to a halt   Your committee hope that you all work safely but our usual social activities have ground to a halt,  We usually meet each month on the second Thursday evening for a drink and instructional lecture on refrigeration topics , Our Christmas family meal has gone into mothballs  as is our annual London Walk     Please keep watching this site   or email us direct  via This email address is being protected from spambots.
